Massage for Labor and Delivery in Jacksonville, Florida - New Class for Expecting Couples

10/24/2023

Are you giving birth soon in the Jacksonville, Florida area? Did you know that massage during labor and delivery can provide quite a few benefits for birthing women?

We are offering a class on Sunday, December 3rd at 6:15 pm for expecting couples (or a pregnant woman and their doula or other birth assistant) to learn easy massage techniques that can make labor easier on mom and baby. The class is $65 per couple and will last about an hour and 15 minutes.

Here are some of the benefits of massage during labor and delivery:

  1. Pain Relief: Massage can help alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with contractions and the various stages of labor. It may reduce tension in the muscles, making contractions more manageable.
  2. Stress Reduction: Massage promotes relaxation and can help reduce anxiety and stress during labor. It can also release endorphins, which are natural pain relievers and mood enhancers.
  3. Improved Blood Circulation: Massage can enhance blood circulation, which is beneficial during labor to ensure that the baby receives adequate oxygen and nutrients. Improved circulation can also help reduce swelling.
  4. Muscle Relaxation: Pregnancy often causes muscle tension, especially in the lower back, shoulders, and neck. Massage can help relax and relieve tension in these areas.
  5. Reduced Pain Medication Dependence: Some women find that regular massage during labor can reduce their reliance on pain medications or epidurals, providing a more natural pain management option.
  6. Increased Comfort: Massage techniques such as counterpressure and gentle touch can make the laboring woman feel more comfortable and supported throughout the process.
  7. Bonding: Massage can be a wonderful way for a partner or support person to actively participate in the labor experience. It can foster emotional connection and teamwork between the birthing mother and her support system.
  8. Shorter Labor: Some studies suggest that massage during labor may lead to shorter labor durations. While more research is needed in this area, shorter labor can be a significant benefit for the mother.
  9. Labor Progression: Certain massage techniques, like sacral pressure, may help with the progression of labor by encouraging the baby's descent and optimal positioning.

It is a good idea to consult with your ob-gyn or midwife and discuss your desire for massage during labor and delivery. Massage during labor is a very safe procedure for the vast majority of women, but since every woman and every pregnancy is unique, discuss it with your doctor,  midwife or doula.

How to Register

To register for this class, please call The Wellness Hub at (904) 512-7551. Prepayment is required. If you need to cancel your registration, refunds can be processed as long as you give 72 hours' notice before the class, otherwise, the payment is non-refundable. The class is limited to 10 people in total (5 couples).

Picture
Are you looking for something special and out of the ordinary to do with your loved one for a date night in Jacksonville, Florida?

If so, you should definitely consider a couples massage! Couples massage is a wonderful treat and a great way to celebrate special occasions for a memorable date night.

Some of the benefits of couples massage include:

  • Shared Relaxation: One of the primary benefits of couples massage is that it allows you and your partner to relax and unwind together. It's an excellent way to spend quality time with your loved one while both of you enjoy the soothing and stress-reducing benefits of massage therapy.
  • Bonding Experience: Couples massage can enhance your connection with your partner. The shared experience of relaxation and the release of endorphins during the massage can create a stronger emotional bond, deepen intimacy, and improve communication between partners.
  • Stress Reduction: Massage therapy is known for its ability to reduce stress and anxiety. When you and your partner receive massages together, you can both experience a sense of calm and relaxation, which can help alleviate the stress of daily life.
  • Physical Benefits: Beyond relaxation, couples massage offers physical benefits. The massage therapist can target specific areas of tension and pain, helping to alleviate muscle soreness and stiffness. This can be particularly useful for couples with physically demanding lifestyles or those experiencing chronic pain.

You may be wondering how a couples massage works.

Make sure to give us a call at 904-512-7551 to book your couples massage (we can't book it over the phone), schedule in advance, especially if you have a specific day and time you want. You will want to arrive early to your massage, about 15-20 minutes. We have an intake form for you to complete (which can also be done online). We also have a relaxing spa waiting room where you can enjoy complimentary organic herbal teas if you'd like. When your appointment time comes, you'll be guided to our spacious couples massage suite. There will be two massage therapists, one therapist for each person. They will discuss your preferences with you and then step outside and you can get comfortable on our heated massage tables, which are side-by-side in our couples room. Your therapists will come back in to proceed with your massage bliss!

After your couples massage, you may be looking for other date night activities such as dinner or perhaps even another fun activity if you're really making a special date out of it. Here are some of our favorite nearby restaurants to eat after your massage. It's best to not eat a heavy meal before a massage, so try to eat afterward.

We are big fans of massage therapy at The Wellness Hub and we believe that regular massage can actually be life-changing! Massage can help to calm and regulate the nervous system, helping to soothe anxiety and ease insomnia. Massage is an excellent tool for relieving pain - from chronic pain like fibromyalgia to repetitive strain injuries and much more.  Massage can even help with conditions as diverse as infertility (check out our fertility massage services) and surgical recovery and immune system enhancement (check out our lymphatic drainage massage services). The power of massage therapy is amazing and broad.

However, at The Wellness Hub, we are also huge believers in integration in health care. We believe that it takes a village to provide the best health and wellness services to our community. This is why we offer acupuncture and chiropractic in addition to massage therapy at our location in Jacksonville, Florida.

Of course, we know that good health goes beyond massage therapy, chiropractic and acupuncture. Here are some of our favorite health and wellness practitioners in our community:

Full Circle Women's Care - A full-service ob-gyn practice founded by the amazing Dr. Chandra Adams. Full Circle Women's Care is committed to listening to its patients and providing them with patient-centered care. They offer evidence-based medicine for women's health and are also supportive of complementary and "alternative" wellness resources such as using doulas.

Haven Family Health Direct Primary Care - Dr. Marilyn James, DO offers personalized care for her patients, in the direct primary care model. This model of primary care strives to personalize care for each patient and provide easy access to the physician, without a lot of red tape. Dr. James offers conventional medical interventions along with holistic and Ayurvedic treatments as well. She also offers osteopathic manual therapy.

Take Control Physical Therapy - Dr. Andrew Merget is the only McKenzie Method Physical Therapist in the Jacksonville, Florida area. He works with everyone from top-level athletes to weekend warriors and people with injuries. We highly recommend this rational and effective approach to physical rehabilitation.

Keep Evolving Beyond Therapy - Mental and emotional health is extremely important to our wellness. Keep Evolving Beyond Therapy provides individual, couples and group therapy sessions to help their clients feel their best. Their care is effective, skillful and compassionate. They even have therapy dogs on staff and yoga therapy available!

Anderson Longevity Clinic - Dr. Brian Anderson and his staff offer bioidentical hormone replacement, IV nutrition therapy, PRP therapy for joint pain and much more.

We hope that this list helps you to learn about other amazing practitioners in our community. We all know that it truly takes a village, and we encourage you to seek out these wellness practitioners if you need assistance.
